This is a very common question, how to check the Magento version? merchants use it to see if they are in the same version of their competitor to have similar features.
Agencies usually use it in the analysis phase, developers use it to check the compatibilities and even hackers use it.
I teach you here my 3 favorite methods only because sometimes you don’t need to know the specific version. You might need to know if it’s a Magento 1 or Magento 2, to evaluate the possible costs of onboarding a client.
You might need to know if it’s a Magento 2.3 or 2.4, in case you’re evaluating a module to be installed, a migration, upgrade, or possible security measures that you might need to take.
With the full detailed version (e.g. 2.4.3) you might be able to have everything above, but sometimes the client doesn’t provide it up front.
1º – URL shows the Magento version
The easiest way in my option is the URL method, it’s based in access a specific URL to any Magento store, most of the time it’s not blocked.
mystore.com/magento_version
2º – Wappalyzer
In case you use a compatible browser like Google Chrome, Brave, Safari, or Firefox, you might be able to easily click on the extension icon and see if it’s a Magento 2 or Magento 1 store.
3º – Admin panel
When you have access to the admin panel, it’s very easy to find the specific Magento version. You just need to log in to the admin panel and look at the bottom of the page.
